Headwaters Community Park

Headwaters Park was designed to establish a strong linkage between the community and the Rouge River system. A range of recreational, social and ecological initiatives was encompassed within the design for Headwaters Park including a central amenity area, which functions as a gateway linking the various sportsfields, interpretive amenities and trails and affords a range of active and passive recreational opportunities for users of all ages. The network of linkages is designed to afford recreational and interpretive opportunities, while enhancing ecological connections within the community.

Schollen & Company Inc. founded the conceptual design for Headwaters Park on an approach that recognizes the context of the park within the Rouge River watershed. Headwaters Park was designed to establish a strong linkage between the community and the river system utilizing a network of tributary corridors that traverses the park, creating a system of ecological linkages between the park, the adjacent stormwater management pond and the Rouge River.

The tributary corridors are representative of the ‘headwaters’ of the Rouge River and function as both the stormwater management system and key organizing element within the park. A range of recreational, social and ecological initiatives is encompassed within the plan for Headwaters Park, including a central amenity area, which functions as a gateway linking the various sportsfields, interpretive amenities and trails and affords a range of active and passive recreational opportunities for users of all ages. The network of linkages is designed to afford recreational and interpretive opportunities, while enhancing ecological connections within the community.
