Schollen & Company Inc. was retained by Liberty Developments to assist with the development of the landscaping associated with this signature office building at Woodbine Avenue and Steeles Avenue East in Markham. The primary challenge associated with the project borne out of the fact that the site sits partially within the floodplain. As a result, the building finish floor was set approximately one-metre above the street. This fact led us to create a ‘stage’ for the building ,with raised walls and steps that mimic the geometry of the building. Rain gardens were added flanking the main entrance as a means of providing additional storage volumes for stormwater and as a Low Impact Development (LID) measure helping to slow the delivery of rainwater into the storm sewer system.
